Water Lily Plants

Humanizing Human Beings, To Be Little Candles for Others

Water lily or lotus is aquatic plant with lily pads. In Chinese, Japanese, or Indian culture, Water lily is a symbol for spiritual awakening because it grows beautifully in the dirty water.

I write about it because I fall in love when seeing water lily pond with a Chinese Pavilion.

Pavilion is small building in the park or garden. It is the place for people to have chit-chat and enjoy the beauty of the garden.

A pavilion, such as Chinese Pavilion, can also stand in the middle of pond or pool. Water lily pond and Chinese Pavilion is a beauty to enjoy. Flower of water lily or lotus erects in the morning. It’s so wonderful. I imagine it is the setting for Kung Fu story or Chinese Fable. I take water lily pictures to share with you.

Learning from Metamorphosis

Humanizing Human Beings, To Be Little Candles for Others

Metamorphosis is the change of shape in animal's life cycle. During metamorphosis, the tadpole's back legs are growing first. Then it develops front legs. Around 6 weeks, the mouth grows wider. Around 10 weeks, the froglet or tadpole with legs develops its eyes bulging out. Then, tail begins to disapear. When its lungs grows, the froglet can go onto the land and it becomes frog.

Read life cycle of frog at kidzone

Even if human being does not experience metamorphosis, he has life cycle in which he learns to accept himself and develop himself to be better without change his identity.

Sometimes, in our life cycle, we learn to accept ourselves. Sometimes, when we see that we are different from others or when others mock or underestimate us beceuse the difference, we become angry, loose self confidence, or reject ourselves.

However, there's nothing wrong to be different. Try to accept yourself as you are! Develop yourself to be your best selves! You are unique and your uniqueness become your power as you do your self development.

Read a short fable story about self acceptance and realizing the power of uniqueness in you in Frog's Story: Jump! Jump!

Non-Animal Fable Stories

Humanizing Human Beings, To Be Little Candles for Others

Many modern fables tell stories about non-animal characters. Their characters are personification of toys, cars, appliances, or modern/ futurisctic things as if they talked, felt, acted like human.

Brave Little Toaster is an example of Appliance's story. According to Wikipedia, The Brave Little Toaster is written by Thomas M. Disch intended for children, A Bedtime Story for Small Appliances. The story was written in the style of a children's fable.

Another examples of non-animal fable story are Wall-E, Toy Story, Cars, and Black Battery and His Role. Fable stories give motivation and inspiration to the readers or audiences.

Black Battery and His Role, written by Purnomosidhi AKA Mas Didik, is presented in one of Short Stories with morals.

Pre Easter

Humanizing Human Beings, To Be Little Candles for Others

It is mini article which I wrote during Pre-Easter.

What is Easter?

Easter refers to celebration of Pesakh or Passover. Gospels say Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Some Christians celebrate Jesus's resurrection on Easter Sunday which is also called Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday, two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday. The essense of easter is resurrection - resurrection of new life, resurrection which refers to salvation and freedom.

However, there is cultural modification among Pagan, Hebrew and Christian in Easter. Tradition about Easter Bunny and Easter Egg and various easter ideas are related to its cultural modification. You can know it from History of Easter and Origin of Easter.

In this Pre-Easter and to welcome Easter 2011, I present palm sunday story. It is semi hitorical fiction. It is fable short story with historical background. You may interpret it as Christian fiction. Read Lowly Donkey and The King of Peace.

This fable is written by Purnomosidhi based on the saying of Dharmakirti Svarnadvipa, Indonesian Spiritual Master of Srivijaya Era of 10th Century.

“Planting the seed of pure awareness or goodness does not grow well if the soil is too clean. It grows much better in soil that is dirty and fertilized.”

Fear of Failure is Mental Block in Learning

Humanizing Human Beings, To Be Little Candles for Others

Why do we blame other? Because of fear of failure. What is the enemy of creativity? The answer is fear of failure. Why do we cheat? Because of fear of failure. Why don't we try something new or better? Because of fear of failure.

According to TheFreeDictionary.com, The definition of failure is the condition or fact of not achieving the desired end or ends.

Whereas to fail means to prove deficient or lacking; perform ineffectively or inadequately; to be unsuccessful.

Fear of failure becomes mental block in learning process.
We should learn to deal with fear. We must learn to deal with failure. We should dare to fail. Open up your heart and mind to find bless in failure.

Many discoveries happen because the genius, like Alexander Flemming ( with Penicillin), Percy LeBaron Spencer (with microwave), George Crum (with his potatoe chips), Mrs. Wakefield (with her Chocolate Chip Cookies), can deal with failure. See 10 Accidental Discoveries.

Resepect your failure and learn from it. There may be bless in it. Read Fable about Failure: Alex and the Mold

White Cat with Beautiful Blue Eyes

Humanizing Human Beings, To Be Little Candles for Others

According to Sarah Hartwell, in her article: WHITE CATS, EYE COLOURS AND DEAFNESS:

"Dominant white masks all other colours and cats may have blue, orange or odd eyes. Those with blue eyes have a high chance of deafness. Those with one blue eye have a high chance of deafness on the blue-eyed side. Those with orange eyes are far less likely to be deaf.

There is an established link between the white coat color, blue eyes and deafness. The tapetum lucidum is generated from the same stem cells as melanocytes (pigment cells). The blue eyes in a piebald or epistatic white cat indicates a lack of tapetum. Deafness is caused by an absence of a cell layer in the inner ear that originates from the same stem cells as well. In odd-eyed white cats, the ear on the blue-eyed side may be deaf.

# 5% of the general cat population is white cats (i.e. pure white). 15-40% of these pure white cats have one or two blue-eyes.
# Of those white cats with one or two blue eyes, 60-80% are deaf; 20-40% have normal hearing; 30-40% had one blue eye and were deaf while 60-70% had one blue eye and normal hearing.
# Deaf white cats with one or two blue eyes account for 0.25 - 1.5 of total cat population
# Total number of cats with white coat and blue eyes account for 0.75 - 2.0% of total cat population"

Sixty percents of white cats with blue eyes are deaf and I have a fable story of one of them.
